What Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?
Kim Hundley provided Kindergarten students at Stonehouse Elementary with lab coats and clip boards to help them assume the role of scientists. Ms. Hundley purchased live chicken eggs to incubate in the classroom, and the Kindergartners watched them hatch, and cared for the chicks until they found a home. Throughout the experiment, they learned and practiced the scientific method. They learned how to observe, record and communicate the life-cycle of a chicken. Remarkably, these young students learned the role of a scientist, and had fun in the process.
